About Us

Our Purpose

The purpose of Delicados, Incorporated is to promote unity and friendship among the chapters and to engage in civic, cultural, and social activities in the local and world community.

Charter Members

Our Beginnings

Delicados, Incorporated was organized in Norfolk, Virginia in 1948 with Geraldine Dodson Randle as founder and four founding members, Barbara Green Bess, Evelyn White Brissette, Vivian Brown West, and Juanita Newsome Whitehurst. In 1960 the organization was incorporated as Delicados, Incorporated. The idea was conceived by Mrs. Hazel Tucker, Clara Jones and Teresa Macklin. Clara and Hazel contacted several other ladies by phone and expressed their desire to organize a club in the newly formed city of Chesapeake that would stimulate the social, civic and cultural growth among their peers. It was decided that the club be aimed towards Delicados, Inc. since it was an organization that embodied the same enrichments they were seeking. On November 14, 1970, the Chesapeake Chapter was formally chartered.

Our Symbol

Our Mission

Throughout the years the chapter has prided itself in giving back to the community and continues to support the Sickle Cell Anemia Association, the American Cancer Association Breast Cancer Awareness Program,  provides backpacks and school supplies for students, and provides Thanksgiving food baskets containing meals for the entire weekend for some Chesapeake families and delivers Christmas presents consisting of warm winter apparel for some children through the Chesapeake’s Department of Social Services.    The organization continues to grow, is steadfast and serenely dedicated to the motto of “striving not to equal, but to excel.”
